How to Hide Extension Cords With Raceways on Walls

When electrical cables run along the outside of an interior wall, their appearance can reduce the room's aesthetic appeal. This problem is best alleviated with the installation of a raceway. Raceways are long, thin plastic coverings that attach to the wall and hide the cable from view, also acting as a protector against accidental cable damage. Newer designed raceway sections have an adhesive backing that allow for simple wall or ceiling installations without screws and anchors.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length of the cable that needs to be covered, using a tape measure. Mark a section of raceway to this length with the measure and a pencil. Make a straight perpendicular cut through the raceway at the mark with a hacksaw. Remove any burrs from the raceway's cut end with fine sandpaper or a utility knife blade.

    • 2

Pull open the front of the raceway, that is hinger on one side. Position the raceway against the wall or ceiling in the desired location, and feed the electrical cable into the raceway section. Check that the raceway is the correct length to completely cover the cable.

    • 3

Remove the raceway section from the wall, and peel off the back covering that protects the adhesive. Reposition the raceway against the wall or ceiling, pushing firmly along the strip with both hands to ensure that the adhesive firmly holds the raceway in place. Feed the electrical cable back into the raceway, and close the raceway's covering by snapping it closed.
