How to Wire a Flowtech Water Pump

Flow-Tech Industries manufactures fluid pumps for the oil, chemical, power generation, marine, and water industries as well as for residential applications. It does this under 49 different brand names tailored to each industry. Fluid pumps have varying electrical needs depending on their application. Consult the owner's manual with your pump for the voltage and amp requirements for the specific model you are installing. To avoid electrical shock, always turn the power off at the source before beginning any work.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the power for the wires you are working on at the electrical distribution panel. Confirm the power is off by touching a non-contact voltage detector to the wire's insulation.

    • 2

Remove the screws that secure the cover on the side of the pump's motor and pull off the cover.

    • 3

Locate the electrical terminals in the pump housing and loosen them with a screwdriver.

    • 4

Insert the electrical wire through the side of the pump housing's access hole and secure by tightening the compression mechanism.

    • 5

Strip 3/8 inches of insulation off the black, white and green or bare wires with wire strippers.

    • 6

Loosen the pump case ground screw and wrap the green or bare wire around this terminal. Tighten down the screw.

    • 7

Insert the black hot wire into the positive terminal on the pump and tighten it down. Insert the white neutral wire into the negative terminal and tighten it down.

    • 8

Install the cover back on the pump and then turn the power back on.
