How to Hook Up Drawing Cable Gland Installation

Cable glands are protective screw-on devices that facilitate an electrical cable's entry into the panel or other device. Installing the cable gland correctly helps ensure that the wires are protected, along with providing strain relief. These glands are often required by modern electrical code, protecting the wire from abrasion from the side of the metal hole on the panel.

Instructions

  Knock out the small perforated hole on the side of the electrical panel or enclosure. Unscrew the two halves of the cable gland.

  Slide the shorter end of the gland though the hole of the panel from the inside. Screw the securing nut to the gland to hold it inside the enclosure.

  Slide the cable through the rubberized slot on the larger capped end of the gland. Pull the wire through the gland and into the enclosure as needed.

  Slide the gland back down the wire. Screw it to the threaded end of the shorter half of the fitting already installed inside the panel.
- 5
  Connect the wiring as the project dictates.
