How to Remove a Broken Light Bulb From a Recessed Light Fixture

This provides the room with an uncluttered look while still fulfilling the lighting needs of its occupants. A broken light bulb in a recessed lighting fixture may seem a daunting problem. However, you can remove it from the fixture with a common household item in a few simple steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Shut off the circuit breaker associated with the fixture to ensure your safety while performing the repair.

    • 2

Lay a standard raw baking potato on a cutting board and cut off the first 2 inches of one end. Cut the end of the potato at a 90-degree angle.

    • 3

Insert the cut end of the potato into the recessed lighting fixture and press it firmly into the broken bulb. Press the potato in until you feel the bulb enter the end of it.

    • 4

Twist the potato counterclockwise, which will turn the broken light bulb base with it. Keep a moderate amount of upward pressure on the potato to keep the broken bulb inside of it. Keep turning the potato until the bulb completely detaches from the fixture.
