Instructions

    • 1

Unfasten the screw at the center of the outlet wall plate using a standard screwdriver. Turn the screw counterclockwise to loosen it. Pull the plate off the wall once the screw has been removed.

    • 2

Unscrew the screw at the top and bottom of the outlet using a Phillips screwdriver and pull the outlet slightly out of the box to expose the wiring.

    • 3

Disconnect the wires from the outlet by turning the lug screws counterclockwise with a Phillips screwdriver. There are two or three wires, depending on whether or not there is a ground wire. The wires are wrapped around the lug screws or inserted into holes by the screws. Unwrap the wires or pull them out of the holes once the screws have been loosened.

    • 4

Twist a wire nut onto the end of each wire. Wrap electrical tape around the bottom of the wire nut and a couple of inches onto the wire. This will ensure that the wire is safe.

    • 5

Stuff the wires into the box and secure the outlet to the box with the screws you removed earlier. Replace the outlet wall plate and secure it with its screw.
