How to Run a Coal Stoker on a UPS

A UPS (uninterruptible power supply) is used to supply electrical power to a computer or industrial machine like a coal stoker when the power surges or goes out. It keeps the machinery it's attached to from shutting down, and at the same time it protects it from being damaged from power surges. Coal stokers convey coal to a furnace, and the furnace burns coal to produce heat or energy; if the coal stops being conveyed, the furnace stops working. A UPS keeps this from happening.

Things You'll Need

  • UPS - power must match the need of the coal stoker

Instructions

    • 1

Review your coal stoker's owner's manual. You must purchase a UPS that can provide the same power as the coal stoker needs or it will not be able to keep it powered when there's a surge.

    • 2

Turn off the coal stoker and then unplug it. Plug in the electric plug from the coal stoker into the input plug in the UPS.

    • 3

Plug the UPS power cord into an electrical wall socket.

    • 4

Turn on the coal stoker and then turn on the UPS.
