Unplug the power cord from the wall. Double check to make sure no electricity is flowing through the computer or other electrical work.
Hold a can of compressed air in an upright position approximately 2 to 6 inches from the electrical work. Read the directions to determine the appropriate distance. Squeeze the trigger to blow the air out through the nozzle. Direct the spray in a way that the dust is blown out of the electrical work, not deeper into it. This is an efficient method of removing dust from large spaces. Compressed air is not recommended for small, enclosed areas.
Use a portable vacuum with small attachments to pull the dust from electrical work. Battery-powered mini-vacs are available at electrical supply houses, automotive-parts stores and some discount stores. Other vacuums may create too much static electricity around the work.
Insert a cotton swab in very small areas to clean the dust from the space.
Wipe a soft, lint-free cloth along the casing on the inside of the computer or other large electrical work. The soft cloth will pick up remaining dust residue in these areas.
