Open the main breaker panel cover in your home and flip the main breaker power switch to the "Off" position.

    • 2

Turn on your multimeter and switch it to "V" so that it reads volts. Touch the red lead of the multimeter to the breaker to ensure that there is no power remaining in the breaker box.

    • 3

Remove the screws on the metal breaker cover and remove the cover to expose the internal wiring. Do not drop the cover.

    • 4

Remove the red and black electrical wires from any circuit breaker in the panel.

    • 5

Wrap the black and red circuit wires around the "-" and "+" terminals at the rear of the riser pole surge arrester.

    • 6

Slide the white wire running from the back of the surge arrester into the neutral bus bar in the panel.

    • 7

Attach the wire marked "Neutral," located at the back of the arrester, to the bus marked "Neutral" in the panel.

    • 8

Fit the surge arrester in the panel and replace the cover. Flip the main breaker power back on. Now that the arrester is installed on a circuit, the whole home will be protected.
