How to Remove a Recessed Lighting Cover

Recessed lighting is lighting that is set into walls or ceilings and appears flat against the surface. Rather than a fixture on the wall or ceiling, the fixture is set into the wall or ceiling. Some fixtures have covers over them that protect the bulb and add decorative appeal to the recessed lighting. You'll need to remove the cover if the bulb underneath needs replacing.

Instructions

    • 1

      Turn off the light.

    • 2

Press upward on the cover, pushing it slightly into the fixture. If the cover slides around, slide it to one side of the fixture and gently tilt the other edge of the cover and pull the entire cover out of the fixture. If the cover does not push upward, proceed to Step 3.
