How to Remove a Bathroom Light Bulb With a Collar

Many bathroom light fixtures hold the bulbs in a straight line above the length of a mirror for even lighting. The fixtures may hold different styles of screw-in bulbs surrounded by a metal collar for each bulb. These bathroom light bulbs remove from the fixture in the same manner as a standard bulb that fits an electrical socket. If the bulb is shattered, you'll need an alternative method of removing the metal plug from the socket and surrounding collar.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the light switch in the bathroom and wait for the bulbs to cool completely.

    • 2

Twist the bulb to the left to unscrew and remove from the socket and metal collar. If the bulb is broken or is loose from the threaded plug, continue troubleshooting.

    • 3

Turn off the electricity to the bathroom at the circuit breaker.

    • 4

Grip the bulb while wearing work gloves and twist off. If the plug is still screwed into the socket and collar, grip the plug along the metal edge with needle nose pliers and rotate it counterclockwise to remove. Do not use your bare hands.
