How to Drill a Hole in a Fireplace for a TV Cable

Flat screen televisions are all the rage these days. But they come with a set of challenges involving how to string wires to them, especially when they hang on a wall or above a fireplace. Instead of having exposed wires hanging from below the television, drill a hole in your fireplace for the cable, a process that takes a few moments to complete.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Remove all items from the fireplace mantle so the vibration from the drill does not tip them over.

    • 2

Locate the most convenient place to put the hole, determined by how the cable wire will run to your television. You want to create the shortest route to your television for the cable.

    • 3

Begin drilling slowly, speeding up as you go. Watch the drill bit work its way through the brick, making sure that it does not get stuck. If it does, stop drilling for a moment, then begin again. Try not to take the drill out of the hole until the job is done.

    • 4

Blow debris away from the drill with the compressed air as you work.

    • 5

Remove the drill bit from the hole when you are finished drilling. Blow debris away from the hole. Vacuum away debris around it and on the drill.
