Turn off the circuit breaker to your Hampton Bay Veranda II ceiling fan.
Remove the wall plate from the face of the original toggle switch that provided power to the original fixture in the ceiling. This exposes the wiring attached to the toggle switch.
Touch one prong from a two-wire voltage tester to one of the screws holding a black wire to the original switch. Touch the other prong from the tester to any metal on the switch or box. The tester will not light up if the correct breaker is in the “Off” position. Repeat the test for the other black wire on the original switch.
Wrap a piece of masking or painter's tape around each black wire attached to the toggle switch. Mark the top wire on the switch as “to fan” and the bottom wire as “to breaker.”
Remove the two screws holding the toggle switch in the electric switch box on the wall. Pull the toggle switch out of the box to access the screws holding the wires to the switch.
Loosen the screws holding the two black wires to the side of the toggle switch. Loosen the screw along the bottom of the switch holding the bare copper wire. Pull the wires from the screws to release the switch. Discard the original switch.
Verify that the four dip switches located on your ceiling fan receiver match the configuration of the dip switches on the side of the Veranda II fan switch prior to installing the switch.
Place the end of the black wire marked “to fan” next to the end of the black wire attached to the left side of the Veranda II ceiling fan switch when looking at the back of the switch. Twist an orange wire connector onto the ends of the black wires to secure them together. Connect the black wire marked “to breaker” to the remaining black wire on the switch with another twist-on orange wire connector. Finish connecting the switch in the electrical box by attaching the bare copper wire to the green wire on the switch with a connector.
Tuck the switch wires into the electrical box. Attach the Veranda II switch to the box at both the bottom and the top using the screws provided with the switch. Place the cover plate over the face of the ceiling fan switch and attach it with the screws that were provided with the cover plate.
Turn on the circuit breaker on to power the Veranda II ceiling fan and switch.
