How to Bend .035 Wall Tubing

Wall thickness and material type combine to determine the use and bending requirements of tubing. Thin-walled, or .035, tubing of any material type does not require expensive hydraulic or pneumatic pipe benders to create even bends of any standard angle. Instead, utilize an easier-to-use and less-expensive manual tubing bender to evenly bend thin-walled tubing without distorting the tubing walls. To ensure the tubing is unobstructed, a manual bender must be set up and used correctly.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull a tape measure along a length of .035 wall tubing. Place a mark on the exterior tubing wall for the straight length of tubing required before the bend.

    • 2

Clear all obstructions from around the work area to ensure the tubing has room to swing during the bend. Set a manual tubing bender on a firm surface within the cleared area with the longer handle sitting on the surface. Pull the handles of a tubing bender apart. Pull the tube latch away from the rounded bending die located between the open handles.

    • 3

Slide the tubing into the top (the side facing the lifted shorter handle) of the bending die. Stop pushing the tubing when the length mark aligns with the side of the tubing latch that faces away from the bending die. Lock the tubing in place by pushing the tubing latch toward the bending die.

    • 4

Pull the short bending handle toward the longer handle until the arrow on the short handle aligns with the required bend degree marked on the bending die.

    • 5

Open the manual tubing bender. Push the tubing latch away from the bending die. Remove the tubing from the bender.
