Instructions

  1. How to Install a DIY Beaded Ceiling

    • 1

Determine the square footage of your ceiling by multiplying the length times the width of your ceiling. Example: width equals 12 feet and the length is 10 feet which is 120 square feet. Add 10 percent for waste when ordering your ceiling planks.

    • 2

Unpack the ceiling planks and leave in the room where it will be installed to acclimate to the room temperature for 24 hours before beginning installation.

    • 3

Measure to determine the width of the first row of planks and the last row to be installed and trim the planks length wise if necessary. This cut edge will be hidden by the ceiling molding when installation is complete. Any trimming should be done on the tongue side of the starter planks. The ceiling planks will run the opposite direction of the ceiling joist.

    • 4

Snap a chalk line where the inside edge of the first row of planks will be. Example: the trimmed starter plank measures five inches in width, measure five inches from the outside wall for your chalk line.

    • 5

Install the first row of planks by nailing or screwing the edge (tongue side) closest to the wall. Keep the nails or screws close to the outside (wall). Keep the planks (grove side) aligned with the chalk line

    • 6

Slide the metal clips that are furnished with the planks with the notch clipping on to the inside of the grooved edge of the plank. Run a screw through the clip and into the ceiling joist.

    • 7

Alternate the end joints of the planks the same way a hardwood floor's joints are staggered. Cut the planks to length with a miter saw.

    • 8

Cut out for any ceiling fixtures with a router or jig saw.

    • 9

Install the finishing row of planks the same as the starting row, face nailing the edge nearest the wall.

    • 10

Install molding along the outer perimeter of the room to cover the nails or screws in the edges nearest the wall.
