Turn off the electricity in the room you are working in.
Tape heavy plastic over all the outlets in the room with painter's tape.
Cover the floor with protective plastic and secure with tape. The plastic should run 1 foot up the walls.
Run a line of tape around the perimeter of the room, ¼ inch below the ceiling. Tape plastic on this strip until all of the walls are covered.
Roll rosin paper onto the floor on top of the plastic covering to absorb some of the water.
Work in one small area at a time to remove ceiling texture. Spray an area with water from a powerful gardening nozzle.
Scrape the wet finish off of the ceiling with a wide putty knife. Spray and scrape the entire ceiling until it is clear.
Let the ceiling dry thoroughly overnight.
Fill a blowing machine with your chosen blown ceiling finish.
Turn the machine on and blow a steady, even coat over the entire ceiling. Apply a second coat if required for your chosen finish. Let the ceiling dry for several hours.
Remove the plastic, and the tape from the walls, then wrap it all up in the plastic from the floor. Throw all of the garbage away.
