How to Repair a Homax Popcorn Ceiling

Popcorn ceilings (acoustic) have been used in houses for more than 50 years. Popcorn ceilings are more affordable for contractors to install, they hide defects, and the ceiling does not need to be painted. Popcorn ceilings can easily be damaged, but with the correct tools and Homax repair spray, the damage can be smoothed over within 72 hours.

      Lay a dropcloth down on the floor to protect it from falling debris.

      Scrape off the remaining popcorn texture in the damaged area. Scrape down to the drywall with a putty knife.

      Sand the area smooth removing any remaining popcorn texture. The new popcorn may not stick properly if the area is not smooth.

      Patch holes or cracks with spackle. Allow the spackle to dry for 24 hours.

      Prime the area using a paint brush. Allow the primer to dry for 24 hours.

      Spray the primed area with the Homax repair spray. Hold the can 9-14 inches from the ceiling surface and spray lightly in a downward motion.
