Instructions

Switch off the main electricity supply in your home. Working on your ceiling could pose dangers if there are any electrical wires in the vicinity, so you are safer to turn off the electricity when you are working on your old stucco ceiling.

    • 2

Cut away the affected area. With older stucco ceilings it is much more advisable to replace any areas that have worn away or sustained damage. Place ladders under the affected area and cut away the damaged portion using a ceiling knife.

Using a brick trowel, spread drywall compound into the area of ceiling which you have removed. Fill the space with the compound until you have reached the original level of the stucco ceiling. Leave the drywall mix to cure overnight before proceeding.

Spray the drywall compound with stucco spray. This will replicate the look and texture of the original stucco ceiling. Spray gradually and with a light touch in an even side-to-side motion for the most effective application. Leave the spray overnight to dry.

Using a small paint brush, lightly paint over the stucco spray. Naturally you should use exactly the same color as the original stucco ceiling. In this way it should be very difficult to tell the repair apart from the original ceiling.
