How to Attach a Light Kit to a Ceiling Fan

Flip the switch controlling the ceiling fan off. Trip the circuit breaker at the fuse box to eliminate the flow of electricity. Place the light fixture from the light kit face down on a work surface. Strip a 1/2 inch of insulation from the ends of the wires attached to the bottom of the light fixture using a wire strippers, unless the wires are already stripped.

Place a ladder beneath the ceiling fan. Remove the screws surrounding the base with a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the base off the ceiling mounting plate.

Remove the screw-nut connectors over the twisted pairs of wires that are now revealed from within a hole in the ceiling. Separate the wires from each other. Place the ceiling fan on the work surface with the wires attached to its front facing up.

Wind the end of the black wire from the fixture around the end of the black wire from the ceiling fan. Wind the end of the white wire from the fixture around the end of the white wire from the ceiling fan. Twist a screw-nut connector over each pair of twisted wires.

Turn the light fixture over. Place the light fixture on the ceiling fan. Screw metal screws through the pre-drilled holes in the fixture and into the holes in the ceiling fan that previously screwed into the ceiling mounting plate -- use a Phillips screwdriver.

Hold the ceiling fan near the hole in the ceiling. Wind the end of the black wire from the bottom of the light fixture around the end of the black wire from the hole. Wind the end of the white wire from the fixture around the end of the white wire from the hole. Twist a screw-nut connector over each pair of twisted wires.

Push the wires back into the hole. Place the bottom of the light fixture against the ceiling mounting plate, over the hole. Screw the metal screws taken out earlier through the pre-drilled holes in the fixture and into the holes in the plate, using the screwdriver.

Screw a light bulb into each bulb socket on the light fixture. Place the ladder away. Restore the electric power. Flip the light switch to start the fan rotating and to light the bulb or bulbs.
