Find the joists in the ceiling, using an electronic stud finder. This is just like finding studs in a wall to hang a picture. Mark the location of the joists, using a pencil.
Snap chalk lines across the ceiling where the ceiling joists are located.
Divide the ceiling into four equal sections. Next, take measurements to determine the size of the ceiling panels. The final panel against the wall may need to be cut. Note that the panels should be installed so they intersect all the ceiling joists. This makes securing each one to the joists possible.
Make any necessary cuts in the ceiling panels, using a miter saw. This might include both horizontal and vertical cuts.
Apply construction adhesive to the back of the first ceiling panel, using a wavy line. Press the panel in place. Secure it with a power nailer at the location of each ceiling joist.
Put glue on the back of the next panel, and lock it in place along the first by attaching the tongue and groove system that is standard with most modern ceiling panels. This enhances the strength of your ceiling. Again, nail it in place at each joist.
Continue applying the ceiling panels, using the construction adhesive, tongue and groove system and power nailer, until the entire ceiling has been covered.
