Move any furniture from under the repair area. Cover the floor with a tarp to catch the over-spray and any debris that falls. Tape off any light fixtures nearby and drop plastic over nearby walls.
Clean up the area that is damaged by gently scraping over it with a scraper. Only remove what is loose, keeping the repair area as small as possible. Use a soft 4-inch paint brush to brush over the surrounding area.
Paint the repair area with an aerosol primer paint that is the same tint as the rest of the ceiling to stop any stains from bleeding through the repair material. Allow it to dry for the time recommended by the manufacturer.
Spray a light coating of texture on the ceiling by making passes over the area holding the aerosol can about 12 inches from the ceiling. Follow the manufacturer’s directions for shaking the can and assembling the spray nozzle.
Spray a very light coating of aerosol glitter spray over the popcorn texture while it is still wet.
Spray a second coat of the popcorn texture without waiting for the previous coatings to dry. However, apply this coat at an angle that is 90 degrees different from the first application. Add only enough material to match the rest of the ceiling, allowing some of the glitter to show through.
Allow the ceiling to dry for an hour before removing the protective tape, plastic and tarps.
