The Products Used for Cleaning a DuPont Stainmaster Carpet

Vacuum

• Like most carpets, the best way to keep your Stainmaster carpet clean is by vacuuming it. Dirt and debris trapped within carpet fibers can dull and discolor it. DuPont recommends using a vacuum with powerful suction and sturdy beater bars that brush the carpet and free dirt for removal.

Deodorizer

• You can use a carpet deodorizer on Stainmaster carpets to eliminate pet smells or other smells that penetrate the fibers and retain odor. Apply them after vacuuming.

Soapless Cleaners

• To remove stains caused by cigarette burns or other objects that burn carpet fibers, use a soapless cleaner. DuPont recommends blotting the area with denatured alcohol or dry cleaning solvent to lift stains away.

Dishwashing Liquid, Water and a Soft Cloth

• Stains are nearly impossible to avoid getting on carpet, especially in high traffic areas. When food or beverages stain your carpet, DuPont suggests using a mixture of dishwashing liquid and water with a soft cloth to safely lift the stain and clean it away. The solution is made with 1/4 tsp. dishwashing liquid combined with 1 cup of warm water. Cover the stain with the solution and allow it to set for five minutes. Place a soft cloth or paper towels over the area and press down with a heavy pan or bowl to serve as a weight. Let it sit overnight. Remove the weight and cloth in the morning and vacuum the area to restore the carpet's original texture. It may require a couple of applications before the stain is completely removed.

Professional Steam Cleaners

• To maintain the look and appearance of your carpet over the long-term, DuPont recommends having your carpets professionally cleaned at least once a year. Lighter colored carpets may need professional cleaning more often, as stains are more visible. Steam cleaners, using the hot water extraction cleaning method, are acceptable for cleaning this type of carpet. Other professional cleaning products that DuPont approves for use on Stainmaster carpet include bonnet cleaning, rotary shampoos and dry foaming powders.
