DIY: Installing a Wardrobe Door Track on Laminate Flooring

A laminate floor can add a touch of style and class to just about any home. Once installed, laminate provides a steady floor surface on which objects can be mounted, such as wardrobe door tracks. These tracks hold a sliding wardrobe door steady so it doesn't wobble. Installing a wardrobe door track on laminate flooring is an excellent project for a DIY'er looking to gain some experience with minor carpeting installation.

Instructions

    • 1

Use measuring tape to determine the opening in your closet door. Hold the tape at the surface of the laminate for the most accurate measurement and stretch the tape from one side of the opening to the other. Make a notation of the measurement.

    • 2

Mark off the measurement of the door opening on the wardrobe track. Use a hacksaw to cut the track to size. Sand down the track's edges with sandpaper and/or a file.

    • 3

Place the track in the opening. Trim off any extra if necessary to fit, using the saw. Once the track fits and is in the opening, mark through the track's screw holes onto the laminate underneath. Lift the track out of the way.

    • 4

Attach a drill bit to your drill. Gently drill the marked holes out. Don't press too hard, otherwise you may crack the laminate. Blow any sawdust out of the holes.

    • 5

Insert the anchors into the holes in the laminate. Replace the track in the closet opening so the screw holes in track line up with the anchors in the laminate.

    • 6

Insert the screws into the anchors through the wardrobe track. Tighten with a screwdriver.
