How to Fix a Bedroom Door

One of the main problems with interior house doors, such as a bedroom door, is that the hinge screws pull out of the frame. The screws that come with the door are usually long enough, but over time they can work their way loose. This causes the hinge to loosen and the door to not close properly. Fix the problem with longer screws that drive deeper into the wall and grab denser wood.

Things You'll Need

  • Electric drill
  • Driver bit
  • 1 1/2-inch to 2-inch wood screws (quantity depending on the number of hinges)

Instructions

    • 1

Unscrew the top screw on each hinge using an electric drill with a driver bit installed.

    • 2

Install 1 1/2-inch to 2-inch wood screws into the top hinge holes. This allows the top screw in each hinge to hold the door in place while you replace the other screws. Do not over-drive the screws into the frame.

    • 3

Remove the rest of the old screws from the hinges one by one and replace them with the longer screws.
