How to Glue Particle Board

Particleboard is good for many projects. Builders use it mainly for subfloors and stairs. However, people also use particleboard for simple projects, such as building workbenches and desks. Particleboard helps the environment -- it comes from recycled materials, such as wood chips, sawdust and shavings. These materials are compressed together with a resin to form particleboard. During a project, you may need to glue particleboards together or to another material. Understanding how to do this correctly will create a tight bond that will last.

Instructions

    • 1

Select a waterproof glue that is right for the job. Use wood glue or carpenter's glue when gluing particleboard pieces together. Use cement glue when bonding particleboard wiht vinyl.

    • 2

Spread the waterproof glue over the area of the board you wish to bond. Smooth the glue to provide an even coat.

    • 3

Butt the other particleboard piece, or piece of other material, against the piece you just glued. Line the pieces up correctly.

    • 4

Clamp the pieces together using several rubber clamps, especially near the ends of the pieces. Put weights on the pieces if they are laid one on top of the other.

    • 5

Wipe off any excess glue with a damp rag.

    • 6

Allow the glue to dry overnight before removing the weights and clamps. Check again for any excess glue which may have leaked out. Clean it off with a damp rag.
