How to Cement Bricks to Concrete

Put on gloves and goggles. Wet mortar can burn your skin and eyes.

Mix the mortar in a wheelbarrow according to the dry mortar mix manufacturer's instructions. This will generally involve slowly adding a quantity of water and mixing it until it is uniform. The mortar should be the consistency of peanut butter. Let the mortar sit for 10 minutes.

Mix the mortar again. The settling process may have made the mortar lumpy.

Spread the mortar into the concrete with a trowel. Spread it evenly. Use a level to determine if the mortar layer is level. Add more mortar if it is not.

Lay the bricks on top of the mortar. Place the level on the bricks to determine if they are level. Push them further into the mortar if they are not.

Continue laying bricks in this manner. Use the level often and adjust the bricks as needed to ensure level and even surfaces.

Remove any excess mortar with a cloth soaked in water. Do this before it dries to avoid having to resurface the concrete. Let the mortar dry completely for several days.
