Table Saw Miter Guide

Mitre saws, otherwise known as chop saws, are commonly used in the construction trade to quickly cut lumber or metal to size. Despite having several different manufacturers, all mitre saws have similar components and guides.
  1. Safety

    • Keep all guards in place while working, ensuring that the proper blades, extension cords and personal safety equipment is used. Wear a dust or face mask to prevent inhalation of dust from cutting materials. Ensure the work place is child proof and free of clutter. Maintain the equipment by doing inspections before work and storing properly in a clean, dry area. Never force the mitre table saw to perform any job it is not designed to do.

    Blades

    • Only use appropriately-sized cross cutting blades. Lumber or metal can cause thin kerfed blades to deflect and make contact with the guard, causing potential damage to the machine or the operator. Ensure the blade is clean and free of defects such as broken or bent kerfs. Only make contact from the blade to the workpiece when the machine is on.

    Motor Protection

    • Connect the electrical plug to the appropriate outlet based on the voltage and amperes the motor requires. Overloading the motor may cause electrical damage that may impair the performance of the mitre saw. Always use a separate electrical circuit for power tools to prevent tripping breakers or fuses.

    Accessories

    • Only use accessories or tools with the mitre saw according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Do not modify or alter the mitre table saw, as injury or damage to the components may occur.
