External Thread Cutting Tools

Several external thread cutting tools are on the market today, many of which are designed to either create external thread cuttings---often referred to as the male part of a screw thread---or to utilize external thread cuttings. An external thread cutting is the portion of a screw with is tapered and can be twisted into place into the internal, or female, thread cutting.
  1. Wood Thread Cutting Tool

    • This wood thread cutting tool is a unique piece of equipment, as it enables the user to create both external and internal wooden screw threads. This wooden tool with a large metal thread cutting tool on top of it is designed to create external thread cuttings of several different dimensions and varieties. Included with the tool is a metal cutter as well, to ease the process of creating the cuttings. The tool should only be used to create screw threads out of certain kinds of woods, including beech, cherry and pear wood. It is not recommended that screw threads be made out of pine or oak woods.

    EZ Lok Threaded Inserts

    • The EZ Lok threaded inserts are a unique thread cutting tool, as it allows standard tools to be modified so that they can insert custom-sized external threads. For example, a customer can buy an EZ Lok threaded insert, yet use a standard drill or another standard tool to install the insert, allowing external threads of a variety of sizes to be used in common household projects.

    Thread Chasing Dial

    • A thread chasing dial is another tool used to create external thread cuttings. This tool is typically used in a machine shop where threads are cut on a daily basis. It is not a tool that should be used by someone with little or no experience, as it requires a lot of manual interaction and machinery to create the external thread cutting. However, with the right knowledge and experience, a thread chasing dial is a very simple, fast way to create an external thread cutting.
