How to Cut Plywood With a Circular Saw

Plywood is a common material found in home construction. Subfloors, siding, sheds and other projects often require the use of plywood. Cutting plywood is often necessary as most sheets are four by eight feet. Though somewhat cumbersome, you can cut plywood fairly easily with a circular saw and a few sawhorses. Asking a friend to help out can make this project safer and easier.

Things You'll Need

  • Tape measure
  • Straight edge
  • 4 sawhorses
  • Extension cord
  • Circular saw

Instructions

    • 1

Set the sawhorses up about 4 feet apart. Lay the plywood on top of the sawhorses.

    • 2

Measure and mark the plywood for cutting. Adjust the sawhorses to ensure they do not cross or interfere with the line you will be cutting.

    • 3

Plug the extension cord into an outlet and the circular saw into the extension cord. Position the cord away from the cut you will make with the circular saw.

    • 4

Press the trigger on the circular saw and begin cutting the plywood.

    • 5

Adjust the sawhorses so the circular saw will not bind. On long cuts, the plywood will begin to bend, binding the circular saw. This is dangerous; move a sawhorse under the plywood portion you just cut to ensure it is level and does not bind.
