How to Tighten a Toilet Commode

Over time the screws that hold your toilet to the floor can become loose. This leads to a toilet that rocks and wobbles. The nuts that hold the toilet's tank to the toilet's base can also be loose. This will cause the tank to rock and possibly leak. Prevent this by checking these screws every few months to make sure they are tight enough to keep the toilet stable.

Instructions

    • 1

Grasp the nut on the right side of the base of the toilet with a wrench.

    • 2

Twist the nut clockwise until it is tight. Do not tighten the screw with great force, as over-tightening can cause the toilet to crack.

    • 3

Repeat this process on the left side of the toilet.

    • 4

Grasp the nuts that hold the tank to the base with a wrench. The nuts are located on the left and right of the underside of the tank.

    • 5

Twist the nuts clockwise to tighten them until they are secure. Again, do not tighten the nuts with great force.
