How to Prevent Acid Staining on Slate

Acid substances such as lemon, vinegar or orange juice can stain natural stone floors easily. Because you commonly use these substances in your home, some homeowners choose to seal their natural stone floors to help prevent the acid stains from damaging them. Choose a natural stone sealer that will work on slate floors and counters, but be aware that the sealer will not protect against harsh acids such as muriatic acid.
