How to Measure Inside Angles for Molding

Molding can add a special look to the rooms in your home. Crown molding goes around the top of walls and often provides an ornamental look to rooms. Chair molding goes below the center of walls, and baseboard molding goes around the bottom of the wall. Regardless of the types of molding you install, you will need to accurately measure for inside angles. Inside angles occur where two walls meet together. If you install molding on a cabinet or other fixture, you will most likely have an inside angle to measure.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the right side of a 360-degree adjustable protractor against one wall near the inside angle.

    • 2

Move the left side of the 360-degree adjustable protractor until it reaches the opposite wall in the angle.

    • 3

Write down the angle list on the protractor dial. This figure represents the angles you will need to cut in molding for the installation process.

    • 4

Use the 360-degree adjustable protractor to measure each inside angle. Each corner may have a slight difference that will result in a different angle.
