How to Cut Trim With a Circular Saw

A circular saw is a hand-held power tool that's used for cutting different types of wood. While a circular saw should not be your first choice for cutting trim, you can use it as a last option. The biggest problem with circular saws is their weight. Small trim pieces or thin trim can break or be very difficult to cut without causing problems. Trim may also be expensive or hard to find, making the wood pieces fairly valuable to your home project. Creating a simple jig can help you cut the pieces successfully.

Instructions

    • 1

Place two saw horses about 3 feet apart. Place two scrap two-by-fours on top of the saw horses. Leave a space open between the two-by-fours that's equal to the width of the trim you are cutting.

    • 2

Connect the scrap two-by-fours to one saw horse by drilling two 2-inch screws into each two-by-four.

    • 3

Set the trim in between the two-by-fours on the saw horses. Extend the cut mark past the end of the two-by-fours.

    • 4

Place the circular saw deck on the two-by-four. Line up the blade with the cut line.

    • 5

Pull the trigger to start the circular saw. Guide the saw slowly through the wood to cut the trim.
