How to Put a Blade on a Delta BS100 Band Saw

A Delta BS100 bench-top band saw is versatile, compact and will quickly become one of the most frequently used tools in a home workshop. The BS100 can cut curves in a range of materials, including plastic, wood and foam, using one of the many blade options available. When changing a blade for a specific material or simply to replace a dulled blade, the procedure is easy to complete and will have your Delta band saw back to work in just a few minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the BS100 band saw's power cord and pull the "lock" clip out of the power switch.

    • 2

Press upward from the underside of the cutting table to remove the plastic table insert from the mortised blade hole.

    • 3

Open the blade wheel cover by unsnapping the two locking latches and swing the cover open to expose the two wheels and band-saw blade.

    • 4

Turn the blade tension knob located on top of the blade housing counterclockwise to release the blade tension.

    • 5

Remove the installed band-saw blade, if applicable, by slipping the blade off the upper wheel and then extracting it from its path through the cutting table.

    • 6

Remove the new band-saw blade from its packaging, if applicable, and uncoil the blade. Handle the blade carefully to avoid injury from the blade's sharp teeth.

    • 7

Feed the new band-saw blade into the cutting table opening, with the blade's teeth facing toward the front of the cutting table, and slide the blade onto the blade wheels. Rotate the upper blade wheel by hand, to center the blade on the wheel's rubber gasket. Turn the blade tension knob clockwise one turn to slightly tighten the blade.

    • 8

Rotate the upper blade wheel several times by hand and observe the blade tracking on the wheels. Turn the blade-tracking adjustment knob, located on the back of the blade wheel housing, as needed, to adjust the blade tracking until the blade remains centered on the wheels.

    • 9

Turn the blade tension knob clockwise slowly to complete tightening of the blade. The correct tension will limit the side-to-side movement of the blade to be approximately 1/8 inch or less when pushed with a finger.

    • 10

Close the blade wheel cover and snap the two locking latches.

    • 11

Replace the plastic table insert into the machined mortise in the cutting table, making certain the insert's slot is aligned with the band-saw blade.

    • 12

Adjust the upper blade guide to approximately 3/8 inch above the cutting table's surface. Adjust the blade rollers following the manufacturer's setting instructions for the blade size and type using an Allen wrench.

    • 13

Plug the power cord in and insert the locking clip into the power switch.
