How to Stain Solid Rubberwood

Rubberwood is a type of tree from which manufacturers extract the sap to make rubber. Manufacturers also use the wood to make furniture, floors, or other furnishings in your home. Rubberwood is a relatively strong type of wood that is also flexible and resistant to fungus, bacteria, mold, and mildews. You can stain the rubberwood to make it look more refined and expensive. The process for staining rubberwood is like the process for staining any other type of wood.

100-grit sandpaper
100-grit sanding block

280-grit sandpaper

Instructions

  Sand the surface of the rubberwood with a 100-grit sanding sponge and sandpaper. Use the sanding sponge to sand smooth and flat surface and sand rounded edges with sandpaper. Rub in the direction of the grain until the entire surface is smooth and even.

  Wipe up the rubberwood with a water-dampened cloth to remove the sawdust. Sawdust residue will ruin stain or sealer.

  Dip a brush into the wood stain. Brush an even coat of stain onto the wood until it's completely saturated.

  Wipe off the stain with a clean cloth in the same order as you applied it. This will ensure that the stain has soaked into each area the same amount of time.

  Let the stain dry completely.

  Apply another coat of stain and wipe it off in the order in which you applied it.

  Let the stain dry completely overnight.

  Brush sanding sealer directly onto the stained rubberwood. Let it dry completely.

  Sand the entire surface with 280-grit sandpaper. This will smooth out the surface.

  Wipe off the area with a water-dampened cloth.

  Brush an even coat of varnish onto the rubberwood. The varnish will protect the wood from scratches and nicks.

  Let the rubberwood dry completely.
