How to Cut a Raised Panel on a Table Saw

Raised panels are special wood pieces that often have a contoured design on the edges of the panel. These panels are typically solid wood material rather than plywood. When you need to cut the panel or trim the edges of the door, a table saw helps makes this process quick and clean. For large projects, you can rent a table saw from a local equipment supply store. This allows you to have the tool on hand for cutting multiple panels prior to installation.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the door to determine how much material you need to remove from it. Measure the depth of the door to determine its height.

    • 2

Set the table saw blade height using the gauge on the front of the saw. Set the blade height about 1/8 inch above the thickness of the panel.

    • 3

Adjust the guide on top of the table saw and move it to the appropriate distance from the blade. For example, removing a 1/2 inch from the door panel means the guide should be the same distance from the table saw blade.

    • 4

Turn on the table saw. Slowly push the door panel across the table and allow the saw to cut the panel. Keep your hands away from the blade by using a push tool for moving the panel.
