How to Replace the Electrical Cord on a Makita 5477NB Circular Saw

The Makita 5477NB is a hypoid-geared circular saw that uses a 7 1/4-inch blade. This style of geared circular saw is more powerful than conventional worm-drive circular saws. Perhaps the most common repair that needs to be undertaken on a circular saw is replacing the power cord, as the cord can easily be cut by the spinning blade if the user isn't careful. You can replace the electrical cord on a Makita 5477NB circular saw in a few minutes with a screwdriver.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet.

    • 2

Remove the two screws from the right side of the rear handle of the saw with a screwdriver. Separate the loosened half of the handle away from the stationary portion of the handle.

    • 3

Follow the white and black wires from the base of the handle up to the trigger mechanism. Note onto which screw terminal the white and black wires are attached. Loosen these two screws, and remove the black and white wires from the trigger mechanism.

    • 4

Lift the power cord and the cord guard out of the handle. Slide the rubber cord guard off the power cord.

    • 5

Slip the cord guard over the end of the new power cord, and place the cord guard back into the base of the handle from which it was removed in the previous step.

    • 6

Attach the white and black wires to their respective screws, and tighten the screws with a screwdriver.

    • 7

Replace the removed section of handle, and secure it by tightening the two screws.

    • 8

Plug the power cord into the electrical outlet, and test the saw.
