How to Install a Table Saw Fence System

Table saws can feature multiple fences that are used to guide the lumber as you cut it. A rip fence guides when rip-cutting and allows you to keep the work piece straight, and a left and right table extension fence adds to the versatility of the saw. Installing both types of fence involves assembling them and attaching them to the saw. You can do this when initially assembling the saw or as you need the different options.

Instructions

    • 1

Install the rip fence by threading the fence handle into the cam hole until it's tight. Then secure the handle by tightening the nut against the fence head. Lift the fence handle upwards so that the back clamp becomes fully extended and then place the rip fence onto the saw table so that the back clamp attaches first and then the front lowers. Push on the handle to lock it.

Install the table extension fences. Install the lock knobs on the extension table and then put the fences on the extension table. Raise the fence to the location that you want, and tighten the knobs to lock it all in place.

Adjust the extension fence depending on whether you want to rip left or right, or with large or small work pieces. Flip the fence around on the table to adjust it so that the overlap is towards the blade for right-ripping small pieces or left-ripping large pieces. For right-ripping large pieces and left-ripping small pieces, flip the fence so the overlap is off the table.
