# How to Remove Dried Teak Wood Oil
Teak wood is a common type of wood for outdoor wood furniture. Teak oil protects the wood from drying out and losing its condition due to constantly getting wet and drying again. In order to apply teak oil, brush the teak oil into the wood and let it sit for one hour until it soaks in completely. Continue to apply layers of teak oil until they soak in completely. Because the teak oil soaks deep into the teak wood, you cannot remove it with solvents. Instead, sand the teak to remove the dried oil.
Things You'll Need
- Liquid dish soap
- Scrubbing brush
- Medium-grit sanding block
- Fine-grit sanding block

Mix 1 cup hot water with several drops of liquid dish soap.

Dip a scrubbing brush into the soapy water. Scrub in the direction of the grain.

Scrub the surface of the teak wood until it is completely clean. Rinse the wood with clear water and let it dry completely for several hours or days.

Rub a medium-grit sanding block over the surface of the teak wood. Sand with the grain, applying even pressure. Sanding blocks provide an even surface. Work until the surface of the wood is even and until the oil color is gone.

Rub a fine-grit sanding block over the surface of the teak wood. Sand until the wood is smooth and soft.
