How to Caulk and Seal Baseboard

Prepare the caulking tube by cutting the tip off with the tip cutter on the caulking gun. Insert the rod in the caulking gun inside the tip of the caulking tube to puncture the tube open. Place the tube of caulking inside the caulking gun.

Fill the bucket with warm water. Try to fill the bucket only 1/3 of the way to make it easy to carry around. Place the sponge in the bucket so it absorbs the water.

Apply a bead of caulking with the caulk gun at a 30-degree angle. Apply the caulking in the entire gap while sliding the caulk gun along the gap.

Smooth the caulking with your finger. Run your finger across the caulking to make the caulking smooth. If you have too much caulking on your finger for the remaining gaps apply less caulking. Wipe your fingers clean using the sponge in the water bucket, then clean the sponge in the water.

Grab the sponge from the water bucket and squeeze the water out of it. Wipe it across the joint of caulking you just applied on the baseboard. Place the sponge back in the bucket and clean the caulking off the sponge inside the bucket with the water. Gently pass the sponge over the baseboard again if there is any excess caulking left to remove. Let the caulking dry for at least three hours before painting the baseboards.
