How to Make Reconstituted Wood

Reconstituted wood is comprised of wood particles mixed with a binding agent. MDF, or medium-density fiberboard, is perhaps one common type of reconstituted wood material. Making enought reconstituted wood to be of any use requires a significant amount of equipment, including a moving press and a 400,000-watt microwave oven, according to a 1990 article in Popular Science magazine. However, you can make reconstituted wood filler that has many practical uses.

Instructions

    • 1

Pour about an inch of sawdust into the old cup.

    • 2

Squeeze a dollop of ordinary wood glue into the cup, or use a specialized resin.

    • 3

Mix the sawdust and the wood glue until it has a uniform color. Add more glue if the mixture does not bind. Add more sawdust if you have too much glue.

    • 4

Scoop out some of the reconstituted wood mixture with a putty knife or similar tool.

    • 5

Apply it to a cleaned-out hole in wood, such as on your window frame. Fill the hole until it is approximately flush with the surrounding area. Sand it level, if necessary, when dry.
