Vacuum your carpet thoroughly. Pour a cleaning solution into your steam carpet cleaner -- read instructions on the steam cleaner for specific products -- and begin steam-cleaning your carpet. Go over stubborn stains several times to remove the spot completely. Continue steam-cleaning until you have gone over the entire carpet. Steam cleaning will also penetrate through to the carpet padding and help clean it.
