Drilling Cabinet Holes

Instructions

    • 1

Lay a drop cloth in the work area to make cleaning up easier.

    • 2

Mark the cabinet in the location for the hole using a pencil. Make the mark where the center of the hole is to be located.

    • 3

Install the proper size hole saw bit, depending on the size hole you want, into the chuck at the end of an electric drill. Some drills have a keyed chuck and some open and close by hand. Open the chuck completely. Install the bit and tighten the chuck.

    • 4

Hold the trigger part of the drill in your dominant hand. Place your other hand under the front of the drill just behind the chuck to keep the drill steady. Hold the drill at a 90-degree angle to the cabinet surface the entire time you are drilling.

    • 5

Place the hole saw bit in the location for the hole according to the pencil mark you made. Push the bit into the cabinet without squeezing the trigger to make an indent in the wood. Squeeze the trigger and guide the bit through the cabinet. Back out the drill while it is still spinning to avoid splintering.
