Draw an outline of the hole that must be made to accommodate the outlet. Use a pencil and a straightedge to make the outline.
Install a 1/2-inch wood drill bit into the chuck at the end of an electric drill. Some drills require a key to open and close the chuck and some operate by hand. Open the chuck and insert the bit completely and then close the chuck.
Hold the drill at a 90-degree angle to the cabinet at a corner of the outline you drew. Create a hole on the line at the corner. Ensure that you drill completely through the cabinet.
Insert a jigsaw into the pilot hole you drilled and cut on the line through the cabinet. Hold the jigsaw at a 90-degree angle as you cut around the entire perimeter of the outline.
