It is essential to cut the outlet hole properly the first time to avoid causing unnecessary damage to the cabinet. Additionally, you should ensure that the location chosen for the outlet will fulfill the need in the best way possible. You can cut an outlet hole in a cabinet using the proper tools and a procedure that requires a moderate investment of time and effort.

      Draw an outline of the hole that must be made to accommodate the outlet. Use a pencil and a straightedge to make the outline.

      Install a 1/2-inch wood drill bit into the chuck at the end of an electric drill. Some drills require a key to open and close the chuck and some operate by hand. Open the chuck and insert the bit completely and then close the chuck.

      Hold the drill at a 90-degree angle to the cabinet at a corner of the outline you drew. Create a hole on the line at the corner. Ensure that you drill completely through the cabinet.

      Insert a jigsaw into the pilot hole you drilled and cut on the line through the cabinet. Hold the jigsaw at a 90-degree angle as you cut around the entire perimeter of the outline.
