How to Anchor a Wire Mesh to a T-Post

T-posts are metal fencing posts, so named because they look like a "T" when viewed from above. T-posts have a major advantage over wooden fence posts — they don't rot or split. One disadvantage, however, is that fencing staples are useless when dealing with metal. However, metal mesh fencing can be attached to T-posts with relative ease.

Things You'll Need

  • T-post clips
  • Pliers or specialized clip tool

Instructions

    • 1

Stretch the mesh fencing to the T-post.

    • 2

Stand on the side of the T-post opposite the fencing.

    • 3

Slip one hook of the T-post clip through the mesh on one side of the post, then slip the rest of the clip around the post and slip the other hook through the mesh on the other side of the post. Attach the clip at or very near the top of the mesh.

    • 4

Return to the mesh side of the T-post and use the pliers to loop the hook on the clip over the top of the mesh and back through the front, then repeat to create two tight loops. Bend any remaining length of the hook over the loops to support them and prevent protruding sharp ends of the hook.

    • 5

Tighten the other side of the clip with the pliers and wrap around the mesh once or twice.

    • 6

Attach clips at the middle and on the bottom of the T-post in the same manner as above.
