How to Compare Paper Size for 1/4 Porter Cable Sander

The ¼ Porter Cable sander is designed to use a quarter sheet of sandpaper at a time. This means, you must compare your sheet of sandpaper with the base of the Porter Cable sander so you can cut it to the proper size. It is possible to purchase sandpaper in irregular shapes or on rolls, so relying on the fact that the sander will use a quarter sheet does not ensure proper fit. Measuring is the best way to ensure the paper fits squarely onto the sanding pad.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the sander from its electrical outlet by unplugging it.

    • 2

Measure the width of the Porter Cable sanding pad with a ruler

    • 3

Cut a piece of sandpaper to the same width and to a length of 4 1/8 inches long with scissors or a utility knife. This is approximately 2 inches longer than the length of the sanding pad.

    • 4

Slide the metal hook provided with the sander into the long slot on the clamp located at one end of the sander. Slide one end of the paper into the sander, stretch the paper over the sanding pad and then attach the other end of the paper to the clamp on the other end of the sanding pad.
