How to Fix the Leg of a Queen Anne Chair

The type of furniture associated with Queen Anne came into being during her reign, which lasted from 1702 to 1714. This style of furniture was a refinement of earlier English decor design. The choice wood for the Queen Anne type furniture is walnut. The most distinctive aspect of Queen Anne furniture is the type of legs. These exist on the tables, chairs and chest of drawers. Most modern styles include legs that are removable and replaceable.

Instructions

    • 1

Flip the chair upside down. Place something under seat of the chair. This will allow you to keep it balanced while you are working on the leg that is broken or loose.

    • 2

Unscrew all of the screws on the leg. There will typically be three screws, one that goes all the way through the leg into the frame and two smaller screws that will penetrate only the leg and the inside of the frame. Do not lose these screws.

    • 3

Pull the leg out of the frame. If you are having a hard time pulling it out, use a hammer and lightly tap one side of the leg and then the other side. Keep doing this until the leg comes loose or falls out.

    • 4

Inspect the leg. Scrap off any glue or area of the wood that is protruding out of the main leg.

    • 5

Add glue to the part of the leg that goes into the frame. Ensure that this part of the leg is not broken. If you have a replacement leg, place glue on all sides of the part of the leg that will go into the frame.

    • 6

Place the leg back into the frame. If you have a replacement leg, place the new leg into the frame. If you feel any kind of resistance, lightly tap the other end of the leg until it is fully inside of the frame.

    • 7

Screw the leg into the frame using the same screws you took out. As you are screwing the leg, glue will start oozing out of the frame as the leg is fit in tightly.

    • 8

Wipe off any excess glue. Allow the leg to dry for at least 24 hours before sitting on the chair.
