What Do You Use When Installing a Closet Rod on an Angle?

Attic ceilings often have a slant that can complicate curtain rod installation. Choosing the right tools and mechanisms ensures that the curtain rod is straight and even, and that it is secured in the wall where it will not break loose. Purchase installation kits and accompanying tools at a hardware or home improvement store.
  1. Rod Pockets

    • Rod pockets are deep, circular depressions that attach to a flush wall. One end of the curtain rod attaches to the pocket. Attach one rod pocket on the wall by screwing it with wall anchors. Attach the pole in the depression, level the curtain rod and then attach the other rod pocket. If the walls are slanted, you’ll need to purchase a rod pocket that is deeper and slightly larger in diameter than the rod pocket. This way, the slanted rod pocket is deep enough so that the rod does not slip out despite the angle.

    Anchors

    • Anchors strengthen the screws and hold them to the wall, so that the weight of hanging material doesn’t pull the curtain rod off the wall. Purchase the right type anchor, depending on your wall material. This includes plaster, concrete, drywall, wood or brick anchors.

    Hook Supports

    • Hook supports are essential if your curtain rod is longer than several feet. Place these hooks on the wall supporting the weight in the middle of the curtain. If the curtain rod is long, use several hooks supporting the weight. Secure the hooks into the wall with wall anchors.

    Adjustable Rods

    • Adjustable rods allow adjusting the curtain rod’s length for a customizable and unique-sized closet, which is often the case for closets with unusual angles and slanted walls. Don’t purchase a tension rod, as it easily slips off slanted walls. Choose adjustable rods with screws on each end for securing into a slanted wall.
