A bullnose is the rounded edge of a countertop or other fixture. To remove the bullnose from your Corian countertop, you would either need to have it cut off while the countertop is still in place, or remove the countertop first and then have the edge cut off. Experienced woodworkers will be able to cut the bullnose away with a saw and sand the remaining edge smooth so that it is safe for use.
Because Corian is so easy to carve, it is also possible to have the bullnose carved into a decorative design, or have the edge of the countertop carved once the bullnose is removed. Examples of carved Corian have included floral patterns, geometric patterns and cooking-related designs, such as images of herbs, fruits and vegetables. Because the pattern runs through the entire piece of material, it will match your remaining countertop perfectly.
The material left over from removing the bullnose can be reused. You could have it carved into a custom backsplash for your kitchen, knobs for drawers and cabinets or even jewelry or small objets d’art for your home. If you have large pieces of Corian removed, you can have those cut and sanded to serve as cutting boards, cheese boards or trivets for the counter or table.
Corian does leave behind dust when it is cut and carved, so be sure to clean your kitchen and the remaining countertop well before using it again, especially if you have the bullnose removed while the countertop is still attached to the cabinets. After cutting, the Corian retains the same features it did before in regards to cleaning and use, so you don’t have to change anything in your regular routine.
