How to Attach Steel Roofing to a Block Wall

Metal roofing, specifically steel, is a common material used in commercial and residential buildings because it is durable, lightweight, and fire-, spark-, wind- and hail-resistant. If your home or building is constructed out of concrete block walls, attaching a steel roof becomes more difficult. Ordinary screws cannot be used to secure the steel roof into place. Concrete screws, which can be found in most hardware stores, along with anchors, must be used to attach the roof to the block wall.

Instructions

    • 1

Drill a hole into the block wall 1 inch deeper than the desired depth recommended by the roof anchor manufacturer. Anchors should be placed every 2 feet.

    • 2

Start at one side of the roof and begin laying down the sheets of steel.

    • 3

Snap the anchor socket onto the end of the drill sleeve and slide the sleeve over the drill bit.

    • 4

Insert the head of the roof anchor into the hex socket.

    • 5

Place the point of the anchor into the hole you drilled in Step 1. Drive the drill until the anchor and steel roof are secure.
