Instructions

    • 1

Iron your chosen curtain fabric and the blackout fabric to remove any wrinkles.

    • 2

Measure down from the top of your curtain rod to the point where you want the drapes to end. This will be your length measurement.

    • 3

Measure from one end of your curtain rod to the other. This will be your width measurement.

    • 4

Cut the blackout curtain to the length and width measurement. Make sure to keep the cut straight.

    • 5

Add 6 inches to the length measurement and 4 inches to the width measurement. Cut your home decor fabric to this measurement using sharp scissors. Make sure to keep the cut straight.

    • 6

Smooth the home decor fabric wrong side facing up on a flat surface. Lay the blackout fabric on top of the home decor fabric. The blackout fabric should be 4 inches from the top of the home decor fabric edge, 2 inches from both the right and left edges of the home decor fabric and 2 inches from the bottom edge of the home decor fabric.

    • 7

Fold the right edge of the home decor fabric in 2 inches towards the blackout fabric; use a hem ruler to make sure it is evenly folded along the whole edge. Pin the fold in place with pins every 2 to 4 inches joining the blackout fabric and home decor fabric together. Repeat the process for the left and bottom edges of the home decor fabric. Iron the folds in place.

    • 8

Use your sewing machine to sew the fold into place on the left, right and bottom edges. Trim any thread tails with a pair of scissors.

    • 9

Smooth the drape onto a flat surface. Fold the top edge of the drape down 4 inches toward the blackout fabric. Pin the fold into place; this will be your rod pocket.

    • 10

Sew the fold into place along where the home decor fabric meets the blackout fabric.
